Belichick will have faith in his defence

New England knew they would have to cope without quarterback Tom Brady for one of the toughest games on their schedule, but heading to Arizona without the best tight end in the game Rob Gronkowski is a fresh blow.

It would be no surprise if these teams finished with similar records – the Patriots’ AFC East is not as tough-looking as the NFC West that the Cardinals contest – but seven points looks a suitable handicap in the circumstances.

But it should be remembered, though, that these problems concern the offensive side of the ball – Jimmy Garoppolo takes over for four games at quarterback – and they can still put up a decent show in defence.
