Thursday Night Football features an NFC South divisional matchup as the Atlanta Falcons take on the Carolina Panthers.

These teams just met a couple of weeks ago, and after the Panthers missed a couple of kicks to win the game, the Falcons secured the 37-34 overtime win.

On that occasion, the Panthers were four-point underdogs and covered the spread. After the chaos of a fortnight ago and coming so close to winning in Atlanta outright, it doesn’t make sense that Carolina are three-point home underdogs here.

Admittedly, the Panthers looked horrific in their loss to the Bengals last week, where they trailed 35-0 at half-time, but they did at least show some signs of life when Baker Mayfield came in at quarterback. It’s also worth highlighting that Cincinnati recently blew out the Falcons as well.

Despite that heavy loss to the Bengals, Carolina are still only two games behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the top of the division, so expect this team to still be highly motivated not only to continue an unlikely playoff push, but also in front of their home crowd in a prime-time TV game.

The Panthers have typically performed well on defence this year and could have the added boost of star safety Jeremy Chinn returning from injured reserve.

As for the Falcons, they have struggled heavily against the run and are missing their top two cornerbacks in AJ Terrell and Casey Hayward.

Panthers running back D’Onta Foreman ran for 118 yards and three touchdowns against Atlanta two weeks ago, while receiver DJ Moore posted 152 receiving yards and a touchdown, so this team has already proved they can get at the Falcons.
