Tai Woffinden primed to tie up third world title
Magic Maciej Janowski can delight home crowd in opener
World Championship: Polish Grand Prix
BT Sport 3, 6pm Saturday
Double world champion Tai Woffinden can bounce back from a couple of near-miss campaigns and complete the hat-trick this year.
Woffy, champion in 2013 and 2015, goes into the World Championship edging third favouritism.
That’s a big price about the hugely talented Englishman, who managed to finish third in last season’s standings despite a handful of poor races. He made just three of 12 finals but a more mature Woffinden can iron out the mistakes that cost him last season, and race to glory.
The competition starts in Poland, where Woffy won in 2016 and made the semis last year, and you’d expect a fast start from him as well as defending champion Jason Doyle, the consistent Bartosz Zmarzlik and title favourite ‘Fast’ Freddie Lindgren, who is on fire after recovering from a broken back.
The Polish crowd are a passionate bunch and it will make for a special atmosphere at the Stadion Narodowy where one home favourite excelled 12 months ago.
Maciej Janowski found his lines nicely around the shale last year clocking up four heat wins before finishing second behind Lindgren in the final.
At a big price take Magic to get off to a flier.
