Lewis Hamilton will bid to become the first driver to win the Austrian Grand Prix from pole position since Formula One returned to the Red Bull Ring two years ago, and the defending world champion is rated a 4-7 chance to do so.

With his teammate, title-chase leader Nico Rosberg, starting seventh after a grid penalty it could be argued his main rival is out of the way. However, there are reasons to think his odds might be a bit short.

Hamilton had complained after Friday’s practices that he was “way off the pace”, and his pole position was taken on a drying track after a downpour late in Q2, which has led to an unusual-looking grid.
