Lewis Hamilton had every reason to feel confident after the first day of action at Silverstone, and the home hero is 4-7 to claim pole position for tomorrow’s British Grand Prix in qualifying this afternoon.

Hamilton outpaced his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg in first practice, albeit by just 0.03 seconds, and was also quickest in the afternoon when the German was confined to the garage by a water leak.
