Maverick Vinales could give Marc Marquez most to do
TV: BT Sport 2, 1pm Sunday
Ducati have dominated the Austrian Grand Prix since it returned to the MotoGP calendar in 2016, but runaway championship leader Marc Marquez will take some stopping judging from qualifying.
The Honda ace stormed to his record 59th premier-class pole position by 0.434 seconds, with the same time gap covering the next ten riders.
Single-lap specialist Fabio Quartararo snatched second with a superb late effort with last year’s Red Bull Ring winner Andrea Dovizioso third for Ducati.
Marquez, already with six wins under his belt this season, is a prohibitively short price for a first Austrian victory and the field look likely to be racing for second.
Maverick Vinales disappointed in the Czech Republic last time but he had a win and a second in the two previous races and looks back to form this weekend.
The Yamaha rider starts fourth, but was only 0.062 seconds away from second place and the traditionally fast finisher looks each-way value.
Recommendation
M Vinales
