News

Japanese Grand Prix bosses have decided to jump before they're pushed and called off Saturday's scheduled track action.

Typhoon Hagibis threatens to bring disruption and destruction to the region, but Sunday is expected to be sunny.

Friday's running remained dry. Mercedes, sporting an aerodynamic upgrade, dominated both 90-minute sessions with Valtteri Bottas heading Lewis Hamilton.

The pair were a second clear of the Ferraris of Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc in the earlier session, but it was closer after the break with Max Verstappen's Red Bull 0.28 seconds off the pace in third place.

Friday running isn't always a reliable formguide, but if the track is not in a fit state to host qualifying on Sunday morning then these times will determine the grid.

Hamilton is 5-4 to top the qualifying session, assuming it goes ahead, with Bottas 9-2. Leclerc, going for his fifth straight pole position, is 7-2 to do so.

Punters in the UK and Ireland will have to get up early if they want to place a bet between qualifying and the race. Hamilton is 20-21 to score his tenth win of the year.
