Max Fricke big value to star as Tai Woffinden returns to action
BT Sport 3, 6pm Saturday
Max Fricke looks a massive price at 28-1 to win round five of the Speedway World Championship in Wroclaw on a night when Tai Woffinden returns to the shale.
Reigning world champ Woffy is back on his bike less than two months after breaking a bone in his back and smashing up his shoulder blade.
Short of practice and barely passed fit by his doctor, bet365 still aren’t taking any chances with the tattooed tearaway – they are just 8-1 that he wins on his comeback – but Fricke has to represent far greater value.
The Aussie reserve has taken advantage of Greg Hancock’s continued absence by chalking up 13 and 11 points in the last two rounds and he made the final in Sweden last time.
Fricke lines up for Wroclaw in the Ekstraliga so knows the Olympic Stadium track well and he’s in serious nick for his home club.
The same can be said of Maciej Janowski, another hometown boy who was back to somewhere near his best in Sweden, where he amassed 13 points and made it onto the podium.
It’s the most wide-open title fight for years – just five points separate the top five riders after four rounds – and while Janowski and Fricke have left themselves too much to do to get into that scrap, they are right on the top of their games at the moment.
