Maverick Vinales the value alternative to mighty Marc Marquez
BT Sport 2, 1pm Sunday
There are no certainties in sport but Marc Marquez winning at the Sachsenring is about as close as it gets.
The championship leader claimed his tenth consecutive pole position at the German track and he has gone on to win the race the previous nine times.
Marquez had to work to keep his German pole streak going. Rookie sensation Fabio Quartararo got within 0.205 seconds of Marquez's new track record time while last week's Dutch TT winner Maverick Vinales was a further 0.006 seconds away in third.
Quartararo competed just hours after suffering a partial dislocation of his shoulder during third practice.
Despite taking three pole positions in his brief premier-class career the Frenchman has yet to take a victory, and the injury looks sure to affect him during the race.
Quartararo spent much of the Dutch race in the lead but developed a problem which caused his Yamaha to shake violently on the straights, forcing him to ease off the throttle to avoid crashing.
He was unable to resist Vinales's traditional late-race burst of pace and it could be a similar story again if the pain gets too much for Quartararo.
Marquez is much the most likely winner but is accordingly priced. However, the same could be said in Texas earlier in the season before Marquez crashed out of the lead and handed victory to Alex Rins.
The Suzuki rider followed that up with second place in Spain and he was in the mix at the front at Assen last week before crashing out. He will have his sights set on the podium.
Andrea Dovizioso, second to Marquez in the championship, is having a miserable weekend and will start the race 13th.
Recommendation
M Vinales
