Preview

Lewis Hamilton was peerless in storming to pole position at a rain-soaked Red Bull Ring, but conditions are expected to be very different for the Styrian Grand Prix.

The defending champion lapped 1.2 seconds faster than Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who starts second, and Hamilton is a 4-6 chance for victory.

The Mercedes ace has won at the circuit only once before, in 2016, and has not been on the podium in any of the last four races at the Red Bull Ring.

However, he crossed the line a close second behind teammate Valtteri Bottas last week before a five-second penalty was added to his race time, dropping him to fourth.

Verstappen was an early retirement last week when he was running in second place and the Dutchman felt the team had improved the car after an encouraging practice day.

He is 2-1 to win at the circuit for the third time in four appearances.

It was another difficult day for Ferrari, with Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc set to start tenth and 14th.

The team rushed through an upgrade originally planned for next week's Hungarian Grand Prix, but Friday's practices didn't suggest there had been much improvement.

Racing Point have work to do after struggling badly in the rain.

Lance Stroll starts 12th and Sergio Perez 17th, but they can expect to do much better in a dry race.

A strategic error cost Perez a likely podium finish in last week's race and Friday's form suggested they are in just as good shape this week.

Backing them to both reach the top ten by the end of the race should provide plenty of entertainment.

At one of the best tracks on the calendar for overtaking, Perez may be worth supporting to fight his way into the top six.
