Dani Pedrosa's 2018 MotoGP campaign suffered an early blow when he required wrist surgery after a crash in Argentina but he is back on the pace for his home race in Spain.

Pedrosa braved the pain to take seventh place in Texas last time out and he was second only to Britain's Cal Crutchlow in Friday's second practice at a track he loves in Jerez.

He has three wins at the tight circuit, including last year, and has been on pole there four times.

Easy Circuit of the Americas winner Marc Marquez is the odds-on favourite after going second and fifth in the first two practices, which saw the whole field tightly bunched - four riders were within one tenth of a second of Crutchlow's leading time.

Pedrosa's wrist could still be a handicap in the race but he seems capable of putting in a strong showing over one lap.
