The PGA Tour heads to Detroit this week for the Rocket Mortgage Classic with everyone involved in Stateside golf praying that there will be no further positive tests for Covid-19.

Dylan Frittelli became the latest player to test positive during the Travelers Championship – the fourth to be struck down with the virus since the circuit returned. Nick Watney, Cameron Champ and Denny McCarthy were the others.

The Detroit gathering will be the weakest event since the Tour returned. Dustin Johnson, 28-1 winner of the Travelers Championship on Sunday, is taking the week off. Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas have also opted to skip the Rocket Mortgage, while Brooks Koepka is sidelined because his caddie tested positive for Covid-19.

Heritage hero Webb Simpson and 2018 Masters champion Patrick Reed are the highest-ranked players in the Rocket Mortgage field, while Bryson DeChambeau goes to post for the fourth consecutive week.

Simpson withdrew from the Travelers on tournament-eve after a family member tested positive for Covid-19, but subsequent tests have revealed the Simpsons to be negative, so the world number six could be ready to step back into the fray.

Johnson is 14-1 for the US PGA Championship in the wake of his Travelers success. Some loose drives down the stretch threatened to derail his challenge, but the former world number one putted well to edge Kevin Streelman by a shot.
