Viktor Hovland romped to a four-shot victory in the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba, a successful title defence at the El Camaleon course in Mexico, moving the Norwegian youngster up to tenth in the world rankings.

Hovland started the final round leading by two shots, then carded a closing 67, enough to leave Carlos Ortiz a distant runner-up. Ante-post tournament favourite Justin Thomas was the top American, alone in third place, while the well-backed Abraham Ancer ended up in a tie for seventh place.

Hovland, 18-1 for the Mayakoba on the eve of the event, is skipping this week's PGA Tour event - the Houston Open in Texas. Ortiz will be the defending champion, while four-times Major champion Brooks Koepka is also going to post.

There are just two tournaments left of the European Tour season - and both are in Dubai. This week sees the Dubai Championship at the Fire Course. Sunday's 25-1 Portugal Masters victor, Thomas Pieters, is having a breather, but Tommy Fleetwood, Paul Casey, Rafa Cabrera Bello and Bernd Wiesberger are teeing up.

Next week Rory McIlroy and other big guns will be in attendance for the DP World Tour Championship season finale.
