Tiger Woods takes centre stage at Muirfield Village as he ends PGA Tour absence

Tiger Woods makes his eagerly awaited return to action this week – the 15-times Major champion teeing up in the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village.

Woods has not competed since the Genesis Invitational in the middle of February. He has slipped to 14th in the world rankings, with Daniel Berger, Webb Simpson, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau and Collin Morikawa winning the post-lockdown PGA Tour events.

The Memorial field is of immense quality, with Woods joined by Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Simpson, Johnson, DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka and Patrick Cantlay in Ohio. Thomas will be looking to bounce back from the horrors of the Workday Charity Open.

The world number five was three shots clear with three holes to play in the WCO on Sunday, but was two over par to the clubhouse from there, meaning a playoff against Morikawa. At the third extra hole, the drive of Thomas ended up right behind a tree trunk, and he failed to make par, so ante-post 33-1 chance Morikawa claimed his second PGA Tour title.

Marc Warren was the 150-1 winner of the first post-lockdown European Tour event – the Austrian Open. The Euram Bank Open, the second leg of the Tour's stay in Austria, starts on Wednesday and has a Saturday finish.
