Lee Westwood and Andrew Landry were unfancied winners of the two main golf tournaments last week, leaving bookmakers toasting them both and punters licking their wounds.

Westwood fired a closing 67 to become the 80-1 winner of the Abu Dhabi Championship, before 200-1 outsider Landry regained his composure late in the final round of The American Express to succeed in California.

Landry squandered a six-shot advantage on the back-nine and was level with Abraham Ancer, who had set the clubhouse lead at 24 under par, with two holes to play. The 17th and 18th holes of the Stadium Course are far from straightforward, so Ancer was watching on fancying his chances, but Landry magnificently clicked back into top gear to close out with a pair of birdies.

The European Tour stays in the Middle East this week for the Dubai Desert Classic, featuring Tommy Fleetwood, Bryson DeChambeau, Shane Lowry and Louis Oosthuizen. The resurgent Westwood is gunning for back-to-back titles.

The PGA Tour stays in California for the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. Tiger Woods makes his first appearance of the year, while Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm are also in attendance for the high-class gathering.
