The Sweet Spot | Farmers Insurance Open & Dubai Desert Classic

Bruce Millington links up again with golf guru Steve Palmer to deliver this week's edition of the Sweet Spot, the Racing Post's weekly golf tipping show.

After last week's narrow miss with Min Woo Lee at the Abu Dhabi Championship, Steve is keen to hit back and there are two fantastic events in the pipeline, featuring some of the world's hottest talents.

Although Jon Rahm is not considered world number one by the rankings, the super Spaniard is very much performing like the best player on the planet and is chasing a third straight tournament triumph at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Rahm followed up his Tournament of Champions win with last week's success at the American Express and, although Torrey Pines is a venue he loves, Steve thinks there are a pair of Americans flying under the radar that could upstage the former two-time champion.

The other event this week sees the return of the actual world number one, Rory McIlroy, with the Northern Irishman the red-hot favourite to reign supreme at the Dubai Desert Classic for a third time.

Remarkably, there is heavy rain expected at the Emirates Golf Club and Steve is happy to take on the market leader given the unsettled weather forecast. The Racing Post expert has picked out four bigger-priced alternatives, with two other British golfers headlining his punting portfolio.

The team also take a look back at last week's events, including Victor Perez's thrilling one-shot win over Steve's selection Lee at the Abu Dhabi Championship.
