CJ Cup third-round preview

Justin Thomas fired a 63 to take a two-shot lead into the third round of the CJ Cup at Nine Bridges and the Kentucky powerhouse, sent off 7-1 ante-post tournament favourite, is into 10-11 to take the title in South Korea.

Thomas, a champion on Jeju Island in 2017, will prove impossible to peg back if he remains in top form over the final two rounds and there is no desire to take on the market leader at the halfway stage.

Third-round threeball punters should instead take a punt on Aussie ace Cameron Smith when he tees off alongside Jordan Spieth and Emiliano Grillo at 1.35am UK & Ireland time.

The 26-year-old Brisbane man loves Nine Bridges, finishing third their in 2017 and seventh last year, and he's opened up with rounds of 67 and 69 as he bids to register a first PGA Tour victory as an individual - Smith won the 2017 Zurich Classic alongside Jonas Blixt.

Spieth is back in the groove with the putter and will be a force to be reckoned with if he can rediscover his long game but the three-time Major champion has developed a habit of following a good round with a bad one and there is no guarantee he replicates his second-round 65.

Argentinian Grillo also looks in excellent form but he typically falters when in contention and, of the three, Smith looks the safest bet.
