Jason Day became the third winner of the golfing weekend when he claimed Japan Skins glory in the early hours of Monday morning UK and Ireland time, the Australian beating Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods and Hideki Matsuyama.

The inaugural Skins at Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club, Japan, was a prelude to the Zozo Championship, a PGA Tour event which starts at the same venue late on Wednesday night. The Skins went to the final hole with all four players still able to triumph – Day birdied to end up victorious, with McIlroy and Woods sharing second place, and Matsuyama fourth.

Nicolas Colsaerts was the 100-1 winner of the French Open, while ante-post 7-1 favourite Justin Thomas justified his market status with victory in the CJ Cup at Nine Bridges.

This week the European Tour moves to Vilamoura for the Portugal Masters, where Matt Wallace and Eddie Pepperell are among the runners, while the Zozo Championship features a star-studded field, including the four players who contested the Japan Skins.

Joining Day, McIlroy, Woods and Matsuyama in a 78-runner Zozo field will be Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Xander Schauffele and Tommy Fleetwood.
