The DP World Tour is staging another low-scoring week in South Africa, with the Steyn City Championship following the MyGolfLife Open, and a clear, calm Friday should deliver another sea of birdies.

Five players finished 20 under par or better at Pecanwood for the MyGolfLife Open - and a similar scenario could be played out in Steyn City. James Hart du Preez, one of the longest drivers in the world, made two eagles on his way to a first-round 63.

Ante-post favourite Dean Burmester made a solid start with a morning 66, while George Coetzee, who started the week at 28-1 before teeing off a well-backed 18-1 chance, also laid a strong foundation for a title tilt with an afternoon 65.

Second-round threeball punters are pointed towards Burmester, who was four under par for his final seven holes of round one. The power-packed South African is made for the long, soft, open Steyn City layout, and it would be a surprise should he not be in thick of things come Sunday.

An awful start from JC Ritchie - a two-over-par 74 - has left him struggling to make the cut. And Ashun Wu - two under par - lacks the firepower to keep up with Burmester off the tee. If Burmester stays focused, he can be fancied to boss Ritchie and Wu for the second day running.

Outright punters should be concentrating on Coetzee and Burmester, while respecting Wilco Nienaber and Romain Langasque.
