Story so far

A magnificent six-under-par back-nine of 30 saw Mark Hubbard go atop the Sanderson Farms Championship leaderboard in the third round at Country Club of Jackson.

Hubbard, a 33-year-old PGA Tour maiden from Colorado, is ranked 188th in the world and was available at 90-1 ante-post for Sanderson Farms glory. Tournament form figures of 51-54-MC-MC did not have the golf betting community rushing to support him this week.

Hubbard, who has one Korn Ferry Tour title to his name, is 9-4 favourite with 18 holes to play. Mackenzie Hughes, alone in second spot, is 100-30 to make the Sanderson Farms his second PGA Tour triumph.

Scott Stallings is tied for third place with Sepp Straka and Garrick Higgo. Pre-tournament favourite Sam Burns is tied for 34th place, nine shots behind, while halfway pacesetter Thomas Detry is seven adrift after a Saturday 74.

Final-round preview

Sunday golf is a different kettle of fish to Saturday golf - and Mark Hubbard's loose finish to round three could easily be replaced by a tight and edgy final-round performance.

Hubbard was far from the thick of things until clicking into top gear coming home in round three and a birdie at the 18th meant he suddenly found himself in the lead. The journeyman has become the hunted and may not enjoy the role.

The man nicknamed Homeless Hubbs when he arrived on the circuit - due to his unkempt appearance and nomadic lifestyle - may struggle to keep a tidy scorecard when the pressure hits on Sunday.

Hubbard is as shocked as anyone to be in front. He injured his foot at home last week when a knife fell on his toe, so was testing his fitness this week, warming up for next week's Shriners Open. With low expectations, he has thrived through three rounds.

Punters are advised to concentrate on four players in the outright market - all of whom appeal more than 9-4 Hubbard.

The 100-30 Mackenzie Hughes, 7-1 Scott Stallings, 9-1 Sepp Straka and 18-1 Nick Hardy are more attractive offers. Hughes holed from off the green to make birdie at the 18th in round three and the Canadian could be the man to beat.

Hubbard and Hughes will form a relaxed final twoball - they are good friends from their Canadian Tour days - and Hughes can be fancied to get the better of his pal. Hughes is a PGA Tour champion who has grown comfortable in contention.

Stallings dropped two shots in his final three holes of round three, but the Racing Post Sport pre-tournament 28-1 recommendation is well in the hunt from a share of third place, while Straka won the Honda Classic earlier in the year and should approach round four in confident mood. Hardy is one of the most promising maidens on the circuit.

The final-round strategy is to stick with Stallings in the outright market. The 2012 champion repelled the likes of Jason Day and Marc Leishman to win the 2014 Farmers Insurance Open - and second place in the BMW Championship in August was a fantastic effort. If Hubbard wobbles, Stallings can quickly take close order.

Final-round twoball punters are pointed towards Hughes (7.55pm UK and Ireland time), Stallings (7.45pm), Straka (7.35pm) and Hardy (7.25pm).

Hughes can use his experience to see off Hubbard in the final match, while Stallings can outscore Garrick Higgo in the penultimate contest. Straka looks a superb value outsider against Keegan Bradley, while Hardy's career seems ready for take-off. Seonghyeon Kim may struggle to live with Hardy in round four.
