Steve Palmer's players to follow for the 2022 PGA Tour golf season

Racing Post Sport's golf tipping guru Steve Palmer picks three golfers to watch out for on the PGA Tour in 2022.

Cameron Young

Life was challenging for Cameron Young in 2020 as he trawled the mini-tours and teed up in a succession of Korn Ferry Tour Monday qualifiers hoping to earn some action. But the powerhouse will start 2022 with a PGA Tour card in his pocket and a seemingly wonderful future.

Young won back-to-back Korn Ferry Tour titles at the end of May - the second by a five-shot margin - propelling himself to the big time. And it did not take this cocksure slugger long to show PGA Tour fans his class - Young pushed Sam Burns all the way in the Sanderson Farms Championship in October and finished a shot shy.

Young's caddie is his best friend from school - and was best man at his wedding - and they could be in for a lucrative season. Young's coach is his father David. This is a tight unit and the New York native appears to have all the tools for PGA Tour success at the age of 24.

Brandon Wu

Brandon Wu won the 2020 Korn Ferry Tour Championship, but because of Covid delays was not handed his PGA Tour card until September 2021 and lost his form in that frustrating period when he was forced back to the Korn Ferry Tour.

Wu was a star at Stanford University, where Tiger Woods first made his name, and later became the first amateur since 1967 to qualify for both the US Open and the Open Championship. The Californian, born to Chinese parents, is based in Dallas and close friends with Collin Morikawa.

It may seem fanciful to suggest Wu, ranked outside the world's top 300 and badly out of form, can enjoy the same success as Morikawa. The talent remains, though, and Wu can be fancied to find his A-game at some point in 2022 and threaten a big-price triumph.

Nick Hardy

Another youngster residing outside the world's top 300 - but probably not for long - is 25-year-old Illinois lad Nick Hardy. He turned professional in 2018 and can be expected to thrive in his rookie campaign on the PGA Tour.

Hardy qualified for the US Open as a 19-year-old and made the cut, showcasing his promise, and at every level he has looked a fearsome competitor who seems likely to relish the high-pressure moments which await him on the PGA Tour. His nickname in his home town is 'No Quit Nick' due to his work ethic and fighting qualities.

This consistent Korn Ferry Tour performer has already shown he belongs on the main circuit. Hardy came through a Monday qualifier for the 2021 Sony Open and went on to finish 14th. He will return to Hawaii in the second week of January and could be an outsider to follow in the Sony at enormous odds.
