The inaugural MyGolfLife Open witnessed some incredible scoring in round one as the DP World Tour stars made merry at Pecanwood Country Club.

Hennie Du Plessis set the early pace with a morning round of 62 - the South African carding ten birdies and eight pars in his homeland - then Nacho Elvira matched that score. Elvira made seven consecutive birdies from the tenth through the 16th.

There was no let up in the afternoon, with another local lad, Tristen Strydom, also firing a 62, then English raider Ross Fisher making it a quartet of first-round leaders at ten under par.

Perfect weather can be expected again in Hartbeespoort for day two - and for the remainder of the tournament - so this could turn into one of the lowest scoring events of the year. Putt poorly at Pecanwood and you will probably be left behind.

Second-round threeballs punters are pointed towards Wilco Nienaber, who carded 25 under par in the 2018 South African Amateur Strokeplay Championship at Pecanwood. The 21-year-old powerhouse resumed that love affair with the course in round one - a bogey-free 65 laying an excellent foundation for the week - and further progress can be expected on Friday.

Johannes Veerman deserves plenty of respect, but his second week in Africa started poorly with a Thursday 72, and making the cut has become the humble target for the American. Nienaber can edge Veerman and Jorge Campillo, showcasing his huge potential.
