Preview

Another sunny, calm afternoon is forecast for day two of the Mallorca Golf Open at Son Muntaner and pacesetting Englishman Marcus Armitage will be looking to kick clear at the top of the leaderboard.

Armitage closed round one with back-to-back birdies to reach eight under par - a bogey-free morning 63 seeing the pre-tournament 50-1 chance shorten to 13-2 as the later starters made the turn. Last year's European Open is the 35-year-old's only DP World Tour title.

Armitage tees off at 2pm local time (1pm UK and Ireland) in round two on Friday. Rasmus Hojgaard, the ante-post 12-1 favourite, gets his second round started at 12.20pm (UK) and there seems every chance of the Dane cementing his market-leader status.

Hojgaard, a general 4-1 chance after his first-round 65, seems a surefire Mallorca Open contender, and odds-against about him defeating Richie Ramsay and Nacho Elvira in round two is difficult to resist.

Despite carding an eight at a par-three in round three of the French Open a month ago, Hojgaard lost the tournament by just a shot, following up with 17th place in the Dunhill Links and fifth in the Andalucia Masters. The three-time Tour champion is full of form and confidence.

Tom Lewis suffered with an ice-cold putter in round one at Son Muntaner - a three-putt bogey at the first hole set the tone for a miserable day - but his swing is in fine fettle. Lewis is worth backing at 11-8 to outscore Ross McGowan and Andrew Wilson in round two.
