First-round preview

Defending Mallorca Open champion Jeff Winther tees off alongside Sunday's Valderrama hero Adrian Otaegui and world number 25 Ryan Fox in the marquee afternoon threeball at Son Muntaner Golf Club, Palma.

Otaegui destroyed Valderrama last week and could be a popular choice for punters wishing to play on the glamour match, but preference is for a pair of Englishmen who could also make a fast start. Dale Whitnell can win his high-noon contest against Darius van Driel and Alejandro Canizares, while Andy Sullivan may boss Connor Syme and Ashun Wu (12.20pm).

Whitnell has spent much of the last two months in top gear, the highlights being 12th place in the Italian Open and tenth spot in the Dunhill Links, and is thrilled with the state of his game.

Sullivan, who opted for practice at Wentworth rather than playing in the Spanish Open, saw that decision vindicated with 11th place at Valderrama on Sunday. Son Muntaner sets up well for him.
