Story so far

Continental Europe lead Great Britain and Ireland by two points heading into the Sunday singles at Abu Dhabi Golf Club, United Arab Emirates.

Continentals skipper Francesco Molinari has been leading by example, forming a wonderful foursomes partnership with Nicolai Hojgaard which won two points on Saturday. The union of the Italian and the Dane has been the find of the competition for Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald.

The Continentals, who started the event a shade of odds-against, are a best-price 1-2 to claim the Cup. From 8.5-6.5 ahead, they need to win another four and a half points from the ten singles contests to triumph.

Great Britain and Ireland can be backed at 3-1 for a come-from-behind success, while the 12.5-12.5 draw has shortened from a pre-tournament 12-1 to a best-price 7-1. The singles start at 6.35am UK and Ireland time, with Molinari against Shane Lowry.

Final-day preview

The Continentals look set to cause a minor upset in the inaugural Hero Cup - the pre-tournament outsiders can be fancied to get the points they need from the Sunday singles to claim the silverware.

The first two matches are top-class jousts, which could go either way, and may set the tone for the day. A 1-1 draw seems the most likely scenario from matches one and two, though, and the rest of singles draw may allow the leaders to kick on.

The Continentals can be backed at 15-2 to win the singles session 6-4, which would result in a 14.5-10.5 victory. That seems a value wager, while two Continentals, in particular, appeal to win their match.

Nicolai Hojgaard has been one of the stars of the event - and the Danish youngster will be thrilled to have got the opportunity to impress Ryder Cup skipper Luke Donald. Hojgaard, a late entry to the Hero Cup after his brother Rasmus pulled out injured, has played every pairs session with Francesco Molinari.

This may have been the most motivated duo in attendance - an Italian who is desperate to play the Ryder Cup in his homeland in September and a Dane eager for a Ryder Cup debut. Hojgaard, perhaps fuelled by his initital snub for this event, has embraced his alliance with Molinari. They tied their fourballs match on Friday, but won both their foursomes on Saturday.

Hojgaard to win his singles match against Seamus Power looks a bargain at 11-8, especially with the draw-no-bet offer thrown in by BoyleSports. The Irish layers are obviously not expecting to field much business for Hojgaard against their popular compatriot, but the Dane can approach day four with more confidence than the Irishman.

For Hojgaard, the Hero Cup has been a triumph - he has reminded Donald of his talent and shown he would be a great partner for Molinari should the Italian get on the team. For Power, the Hero Cup has been a disappointment, with foursomes failures alongside two top-class partners in the shape of Shane Lowry and Robert MacIntyre.

Hojgaard, better suited than Power to the wide-open desert layouts like this one, where attacking golf is encouraged, is an attractive outsider to end a fantastic week on a high. An unbeaten Hero Cup would be a feather in his cap.

Guido Migliozzi, another Italian dreaming of teeing up in a home Ryder Cup, can be fancied for the bottom match. Migliozzi is joint top-scorer in the Hero Cup - a draw and two wins - and odds-against that he beats Richard Mansell seems generous.

Migliozzi won the Belgian Knockout in 2019 and is comfortable in head-to-head golf. Mansell, suspect with putter in hand, is a DP World Tour maiden with a history of struggling in contention.
