Story so far
Eight of the 16 teams remain in the GolfSixes Cascais going into the final day, with ante-post co-favourites England and Spain both still in the event.

England and Spain, pre-tournament 6-1 chances, have ended up in separate halves of the knockout draw, so could meet in the final.

Ireland won their first match and drew their second, but four points was not enough to progress from Group B – Thailand defeated the defending champions in the final session of the group stage, Thongchai Jaidee holing in one at the final hole, to edge through by a point.

Australia flirted with elimination and were forced into a playoff against Germany Women, but the Aussie duo of Scott Hend and Wade Ormsby sneaked through in a nearest-the-pin competition, winning by one foot and seven inches at the second extra hole.

Quarter-finals line-up (in draw order)
England v Sweden (11.33am)
France v Italy (11.44am)
Thailand v Scotland (11.59am)
Spain v Australia (12.10pm)

Best outright prices
7-2 Spain, 4 England, 15-2 France, Scotland, Thailand, Sweden, 8 Australia, Italy.

Final-day advice
Spain were by far the most impressive side on day one of the GolfSixes and the massively in-form combination of Jorge Campillo and Nacho Elvira go into the knockout stages as deserved favourites.

Spain won more points than any other team, won more holes than any other team, and were cheered every step of the way by enthusiastic supporters from across the border. Campillo was carrying a red-hot putter, while Elvira's iron-play was rock-solid.

Nothing is guaranteed in six-hole golf, but it seems that somebody is going to have to play extremely well to eliminate the Spanish.

Australia were beaten by Germany Women in Group C, then sneaked past them by a narrow margin in a nearest-the-pin decider, so the Aussies did not progress carrying much confidence.

Spain can be fancied to see off Australia in the semis, then whoever emerges from what should be a tight Thailand versus Scotland encounter.

England lost to India, despite topping their group, and have a tough quarter-final against Sweden. The English – Tom Lewis and Paul Waring – might battle their way to the final, but it is difficult to fancy them for the title if Campillo and Elvira are waiting for them.

Spain were pre-tournament 6-1 Racing Post Sport recommendations, but given how quickly they have slipped into a groove at Oitavos Dunes, a press-up at 7-2 seems sensible.
