Preview

Richard Sterne, available at 250-1 ante-post, ended round one of the Desert Classic at the top of the leaderboard, the South African firing a 64 at the Emirates Club, Dubai.

Sterne, who last posted a European Tour top-ten finish in April, 2019, has slumped to world number 320, but nine birdies saw him set the early pace in Dubai, the 39-year-old shortening to 14-1 in the outright betting.

Abu Dhabi champion, Tyrrell Hatton, made a miserable start in his quest for back-to-back titles, opening up with a 76, but Sergio Garcia (66) and Paul Casey (67) laid a strong foundation for the days ahead.

Second-round threeball punters should consider consistent Dubai performer, Andy Sullivan, who comfortably outscored playing partners Jason Scrivener and Haotong Li in round one. Sullivan, who has finished runner-up in each of the three European Tour events in Dubai, seems a generous odds-against chance in the 7.50am UK and Ireland time match.
