Preview

JB Hansen carded a nine-under-par opening round of 63 to set the pace in the Dubai Championship at the Fire Course, the ante-post 50-1 chance shortening to 9-1 having forged a two-shot lead.

Hansen, whose only European Tour triumph came with a two-shot Joburg Open success just under a year ago, tees off at 11.40am local time (7.40am UK and Ireland) in round two.

Second-round threeball punters are pointed towards a pair of Frenchmen. Defending champion Antoine Rozner loves this venue and a Thursday 65 was enough for him to leave playing partners Padraig Harrington and Stephen Gallacher behind. A repeat success can be expected (7.50am UK).

Romain Langasque is swinging superbly, finding fairways for fun, and that long-game solidity gives him an edge over Oliver Wilson and David Law in the 7.30am contest.
