Preview
Irishman Seamus Power will feel at home in Bermuda this week – a wet and windy event is in store at Port Royal Golf Course – and this solid performer should be trusted in a 72-hole match against Patrick Rodgers.
With rain expected on day one, and a stiff breeze for the final three rounds, this tournament could turn into a war of attrition. Power, typically tidy from tee to green and an ace scrambler, can be fancied to hang tough longer than gung-ho show pony Rodgers.
The pick of the first-round threeball options could be Nick Hardy to beat MJ Daffue and Akshay Bhatia in the 1.14pm (UK and Ireland time) contest.
Hardy has been striking his ball with authority in recent weeks and he finished fifth in the Sanderson Farms Championship at the start of this month. This rising star of the PGA Tour has gone six events without missing a cut and could make serious impact at Port Royal.
Daffue has made an uncertain start to life on the PGA Tour, while Bhatia has been struggling to make cuts on the Korn Ferry Tour.
Adrian Meronk, like Bhatia the fortunate recipient of a sponsors invite this week, could be worth backing to miss the cut at 11-4. The layers are showing the Pole great respect but he is massively outside his comfort zone, making only his second Stateside start. He missed the cut in the US Open last year and is seeing Port Royal for the first time this week.
