Preview

Bryson DeChambeau headlines the morning wave in the first round of the AT&T Byron Nelson, and the Dallas-based star is sure to command a large gallery at TPC Craig Ranch as he booms into action at 1.34pm UK and Ireland time.

Jordan Spieth, who revealed this week he suffered Covid after the Masters and had to take a month off as a result, tees off alongside Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris at 6.33pm, while Augusta hero Hideki Matsuyama joins Jon Rahm and Craig Ranch member Sung Kang at 6.44pm.

Marc Leishman for top Australian stands out as the best non-outright wager this week and 11-8 seems a juicy offer when you consider the weakness of the opposition, which is headed by Jason Day, Danny Lee and Cameron Percy.

Leishman has an outstanding Byron Nelson record, including a runner-up finish in 2018, and he is one of the few players in this field with positive competitive course experience, having finished seventh in the 2008 Nationwide Tour Championship at Craig Ranch, which is hosting the Byron Nelson for the first time this week.

Leishman was fifth in the Masters before winning the Zurich Classic pairs event alongside Cameron Smith, so everything points to the 37-year-old Victorian giving a strong account of himself in the Lone Star State this week.

Three 72-hole match-bet options appeal as supplementary investments. Keith Mitchell, who was hugely impressive in the Zurich Classic before finishing third in the Wells Fargo Championship on Sunday, seems a bargain 6-5 outsider against Talor Gooch in a draw-no-bet match.

Dallas-based Korean, Si Woo Kim, can use his local knowledge to outscore Harris English, who has been largely abysmal since winning at Kapalua in the second week of January, while Scottie Scheffler, another Tour star based in Dallas, is much preferred to Daniel Berger, who has been suffering with some injury niggles over the last couple of months.
