One of the most ambitious but potentially life-changing investments a sports punter can have is to predict the winner of each of the year's four Majors and put them in an accumulator.

Bookmakers have prices running for the Masters, US PGA Championship, US Open and Open Championship, meaning a low-stake four-fold can yield riches if you successfully pinpoint who will be lifting the most prestigious prizes in golf.

The betting community need to be aware of two drawbacks before embarking on this mission. Firstly, the vast majority of layers will not allow you to pick a player multiple times. For example, if you put Tiger Woods in your acca for the Masters, he must not be used for any of the other three Majors. This is because a victory would automatically shorten his odds for subsequent Majors.

Four of the last five seasons have passed without multiple Major champions - Brooks Koepka enjoyed a double in 2018 - so the wager is well worth risking.

Secondly, it is easy to bust the maximum payout restrictions with this type of bet, so punters should be aware of the rules from which their layer is working. It is wise to target the bookmakers who are happy to return £500,000 - and not to over-stake - although some punters may choose to bust the win limit to get more on the place part of an each-way multiple.

The awesome foursome that could turn 2021 into a dream betting year are nominated as Justin Thomas for the Masters, Rory McIlroy for the US PGA, Jon Rahm for the US Open and Dustin Johnson for the Open.

Thomas did not have his A-game with him at Augusta in November, but he still managed to finish fourth, his Masters form figures progressing further to 39-22-17-12-4. He has carried a cold putter for much of his time at Augusta and can propel himself into the Green Jacket if he arrives with a fully functioning flat-stick in April.

McIlroy has never teed up at a Major venue where he has previously won one, but he gets that chance in May for the US PGA at Kiawah Island, where he won the tournament by eight shots in 2012. The two-time US PGA champion has twice finished third in the event and can get back to Major-winning ways in the spring.

Rahm started to thrive on difficult courses this year, winning at Muirfield Village and Olympia Fields, and the Spaniard's lack of weakness could translate to US Open glory at Torrey Pines. His maiden PGA Tour title came at Torrey in 2017. The US Open should come just before Rahm becomes a father, so a first Major victory could kick off a magical summer.

Masters champ Johnson finished second at Royal St George's in the last Open there in 2011. It would come as no surprise should the third Major triumph of his career arrive in Kent in July. The Thomas, McIlroy, Rahm, Johnson four-fold pays 20,591-1 at Hills's prices of 11-1, 12-1, 11-1 and 10-1.
