Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm, Xander Schauffele, Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy are part of a high-class Wells Fargo Championship field this week - the elite heading to Quail Hollow, North Carolina, to fine-tune their game as the US PGA Championship looms large.

Thomas, atop the FedEx Cup standings after finishing 13th in the Valspar Championship on Sunday, is the highest-ranked player in the field. Dustin Johnson, tailed off in 48th place in the Valspar, will probably use next week's AT&T Byron Nelson as his US PGA warm-up.

McIlroy, who has dropped to 15th in the world rankings, made his PGA Tour breakthrough at Quail Hollow in 2010, then won the tournament by seven shots in 2015, so the Northern Irishman will be sensing an opportunity to arrest his decline.

Sam Burns, the 90-1 winner of the Valspar, is taking the week off, but runner-up Keegan Bradley is going to post again. Masters runner-up Will Zalatoris is also in the field.

The European Tour stays in the Canary Islands for a third consecutive week. Dean Burmester, the 50-1 winner of the Tenerife Open on Sunday, gets the chance to win on the same course again this week in the Canary Islands Championship.

Garrick Higgo, who won the Gran Canaria Lopesan Open the week before last, is also teeing up at Golf Costa Adeje.
