Rory McIlroy has won the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup at East Lake, repeating his achievement of 2016, birdies at the 17th and 18th holes resulting in a four-shot triumph.

McIlroy was 8-1 on the eve of the Tour Championship to lift the trophy, having started the event with a five-shot deficit to FedEx Cup standings leader Justin Thomas, the new FedEx handicap system in operation for the first time. McIlroy was the same price in the 72-hole lowest-scorer market, which did not include the handicap, and also won that.

The final seven holes of the Tour Championship was a rollercoaster for McIlroy and his army of supporters. Birdes at the 12th and 13th sent him three shots clear at the top of the leaderboard, but bogeys at the 14th and 15th dented the advantage and he faced an eight-foot par putt at the 16th. Holing that lifted the pressure, then the Northern Irishman finished with a flourish to leave Xander Schauffele behind in second spot.

The full placings for the 72-hole lowest-scorer market were first McIlroy, second Schauffele, third Casey, fourth Brooks Koepka, tied fifth Adam Scott and Chez Reavie.

Erik van Rooyen was the 16-1 winner of the Scandinavian Invitation, beating Matthew Fitzpatrick by a shot. The PGA Tour takes a break this week, but the European Tour moves to Switzerland for the European Masters, where Fitzpatrick is aiming for three consecutive victories. McIlroy is also in the field for the Crans-sur-Sierre shootout.
