Kevin Na was the 70-1 winner of the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in the early hours of Monday morning UK and Ireland time, the Las Vegas resident using his local knowledge to triumph at TPC Summerlin.

Na, who won his maiden PGA Tour title at Summerlin in 2011, secured the fourth victory of his career by beating Patrick Cantlay in a playoff. The pair battled down the stretch in a topsy-turvy contest, before Na finally claimed the trophy at the second playoff hole.

Cantlay started the 17th hole of regulation play with a one-shot lead, but pulled his tee-shot into the greenside water hazard and made bogey. He bogeyed the second extra hole, too, meaning Na was champion when he scrambled a par.

Bookmakers will be relieved that Cantlay, 12-1 second-favourite ante-post, failed to get the job done. Jon Rahm was a 3-1 winning favourite in the Spanish Open, so the layers were facing a difficult week until Na came to their rescue.

This week the European Tour stages the Italian Open, for which Justin Rose and Francesco Molinari are among the entries, while the PGA Tour action is the Houston Open, a low-grade affair featuring Henrik Stenson.
