Jon Rahm moved up to world number three after winning The American Express on Sunday – the Spaniard failing to hit top spot despite four victories in his last six tournaments.

Rahm, a general 6-1 ante-post market leader for the AmEx, has been vocal in his criticism of changes to the world ranking points system. He has been in incredible form, winning the Spanish Open, the DP World Tour Championship and the Sentry Tournament of Champions prior to Sunday's success in California, but Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler remain ahead of him in the rankings.

Rahm edged Davis Thompson by a shot for AmEx glory – the youngster closing with seven consecutive pars to fall just short. Both players have made the short journey from La Quinta to San Diego for this week's Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.

Tony Finau, Max Homa, Sungjae Im, Si Woo Kim, Hideki Matsuyama, Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas and Will Zalatoris are also in attendance at Torrey for an event which starts on Wednesday.

Victor Perez, the 40-1 winner of a dramatic Abu Dhabi Championship on Sunday, is at Emirates Golf Club for the Dubai Desert Classic. Rory McIlroy is making his first start of the year, with Tommy Fleetwood and Shane Lowry among the opposition.
