Final round preview
It promises to be a fascinating finish to the first event of the PGA Tour FedEx Cup playoffs, with no fewer than 16 players within four shots of the lead.
JJ Spaun tops the leaderboard on 13 under par going into the final round as he seeks just his second Tour victory following his debut win at the Texas Open in April.
Another surprise name sits one shot off the lead, with Austria’s Sepp Straka on his own in second after carding a third round 68.
There is a three-way tie for third, with Open champion Cameron Smith joined by American duo Will Zalatoris and Trey Mullinax on 11 under.
It’s been a very impressive year from Zalatoris despite the fact that the 25-year-old is still searching for his first Tour title.
Three top-ten finishes in this year’s Majors, including two runners-up spots, highlights what he is capable of and he looks to be in prime position to make the breakthrough in a playoff event.
The Californian carded six birdies in Saturday’s 65 and having finished tied-eight on this course in last year’s St Jude Invitational, he has the confidence to go on and claim a much-deserved success.
Zalatoris is in the top ten in Tour stats for Greens in Regulation and Birdie Average, so expect him to be firing at the flags on Sunday and he will hope his flat stick his hot.
Sam Burns is currently third in the FedEx Cup standings and a strong Sunday will further boost his hopes of topping the money list this season.
Having missed out in a playoff to Abraham Ancer last year, the 26-year-old has carded three sub-70 rounds to leave him four shots off the pace.
Burns fired a final round 64 last year in Memphis and a repeat performance is likely to see him fight it out for the title again.
