Dustin Johnson ready to climb leaderboard over final two rounds
English trio in the thick of things
Sky Sports Golf, 6pm Sunday
European Ryder Cup captain, Thomas Bjorn, must be delighted with what he has seen from the first two days of the Dell Technologies Championship – three members of his team are inside the top four of the TPC Boston leaderboard.
American Webb Simpson, 40-1 at the outset, is one shot ahead, but English trio Tyrrell Hatton, Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood are on his tail. Hatton, Rose and Fleetwood are finding form at the perfect time, with Europe's clash against the United States on the horizon.
Simpson is 100-30 favourite for an event which still has 36 holes to play, having started Friday and finishing Monday, and the biggest names in the field have much catching up to do.
Jordan Spieth is five shots behind, Dustin Johnson six, and Brooks Koepka, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy seven. Justin Thomas must be close to giving up from 11 shots off the pace, while Jason Day's challenge is certainly over after he missed the cut.
With perfect weather forecast for the next two days, there is plenty of scope for the chasing pack to catch up, and Dustin Johnson may be the best value outright option at 16-1.
Johnson says he likes how TPC Boston sets up for him, despite his record not being fantastic there, and the eight-foot birdie putt he rolled in at his final hole of round two keeps him close enough to the lead to have designs on the trophy.
Johnson is hitting his ball with authority, is determined to win a first FedEx Cup, and if that 18th-hole birdie instils some flat-stick confidence for the the final two rounds, he looks the most likely to make a move from just off the pace.
Third-round twoball punters are pointed towards Charles Howell, a value outsider for his 3.45pm (UK and Ireland time) match against Henrik Stenson, who has been struggling for fitness and form.
