Collin Morikawa blew a golden chance to end the year as world number one, squandering a five-shot final-round lead in the Hero World Challenge, allowing Viktor Hovland to lift the trophy in The Bahamas.

Morikawa was a general 1-4 chance for Hero glory going into Sunday - a victory which would have seen him overtake Jon Rahm atop the world rankings - but two double-bogeys in his first six holes of round four saw the Californian caught.

Morikawa went on to card a four-over-par 76, dropping into a share of fifth place as ante-post 11-1 chance Hovland took the title, with Scottie Scheffler finishing runner-up.

Morikawa is just behind Rahm and Jordan Spieth in the 2022 Masters betting. Some firms have Morikawa alongside Spieth at 12-1. Spieth finished last in the 20-runner Hero - at six over par - in his first start since becoming a father.

The final golf event of the year starts on Friday - the QBE Shootout from Tiburon Golf Club, Naples, Florida. The popular pairs event, hosted annually by Greg Norman, features 12 partnerships. Sam Burns and Billy Horschel are 4-1 favourites.
