There were mixed results for punters in the three tournaments which became the centre of the golf betting universe this week – the Moon Valley Classic, the Clutch Pro Tour event at The Shire and the 1836 Tour event at Dunham Forest.

With coronavirus forcing the cancellation of the main tours, the betting community were left scouring the lower grades for events which went ahead as planned. The Moon Valley Classic – a women's event on the Cactus Tour – was a victory for punters when Anna Nordqvist claimed the trophy on Friday night.

Nordqvist was Racing Post Sport's headline selection at 11-2 for the three-round tournament in Phoenix. Cheyenne Woods, the other Racing Post Sport recommendation, was a non-runner and stakes should have been returned.

The Clutch Pro Tour event was less successful. Ben Stow, a 25-1 Racing Post Sport recommendation, finished alone in fifth place to provide a return to each-way backers. But favourite Callum Shinkwin, along with Steven Brown, who became clear second in the betting after early support, failed to make an impression.

Clutch Pro Tour Director, Tom Hayward, told Racing Post Sport that both Shinkwin and Brown started the event before withdrawing mid-round. Scott Gregory was the winner.

The 1836 Tour event provided dead-heat winners – Callum Tarren and Tom Murray. There are no playoffs in one-round events on the 1836 Tour. Racing Post Sport headline selection Marcus Armitage finished third. The other Racing Post recommendation, Jamie Donaldson, withdrew just prior to the tournament. Stakes on Donaldson should be returned.
