Bryson DeChambeau shoots up Majors betting after Rocket Mortgage romp

Bryson DeChambeau has become second-favourite for the US PGA Championship in the wake of his impressive Rocket Mortgage Classic victory at Detroit Golf Club.

DeChambeau overcame a three-shot final-round deficit in Detroit to triumph by three shots, claiming his sixth PGA Tour title, and Rory McIlroy is the only player bookmakers rate more likely for Major success in the months to come.

DeChambeau, who can boast form figures of 5-2-4-3-8-6-1 from his last seven PGA Tour events, has taken his game to a new level through gaining muscle and adding driving distance. He has established himself as the longest driver on the circuit, using an eight-iron from the rough to get pin high in two shots on the par-five 17th on Sunday, a two-putt birdie essentially guaranteeing him the winner's cheque.

The cocksure Californian closed with three consecutive birdies – his final-round 65 the best score in the field – and this dominance will send him to the Majors bursting with confidence.

DeChambeau is taking this week off, having played the previous four, leaving Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas and Brooks Koepka headlining the inaugural Workday Charity Open at Muirfield Village. Patrick Cantlay is also in the field for the Ohio event.

The European Tour returns this week with the Austrian Open at Diamond Country Club, where Joost Luiten and Nicolas Colsaerts are among the runners.
