Match preview

As a player, Kolo Toure was one of Arsenal's 'Invincibles' but the unbeaten start to his managerial career is under threat when his Wigan side host Championship title contenders Sheffield United.

Toure led the Latics to a respectable 1-1 draw away to Millwall in his first game in charge but the weekend results mean they are back in the relegation zone before kick-off against the Blades.

Leam Richardson, the manager who led Wigan to the League One title last season, was sacked last month after taking just one point from his final seven league matches.

An 88th-minute goal from defender Curtis Tilt gave the Lancashire side a 2-1 home win over fellow strugglers Blackpool in their final match before the World Cup break and Toure described the draw at Millwall as "a good point".

However, visitors United are going well under the impressive Paul Heckingbottom, winning five of their last six matches including a 5-2 victory over title favourites Burnley, who themselves won 5-1 at Wigan in August.

The Blades were good value for their 1-0 success against Huddersfield in their first game in a month, dominating possession and having 16 shots to the Terriers' four.

They have several injury absentees but their squad is packed with Premier League experience.

Senegal World Cup star Iliman Ndiaye and Norway international Sander Berge, a reported January transfer target for Liverpool, bring some class to the attacking unit and the Blades should take the points in Toure's first home game as Wigan boss.

Key stat

Wigan have lost five of their last seven Championship home games.
