Attack-minded Baggies should justify favouritism at home to Forest

West Brom haven't won a Sky Bet Championship home game since Boxing Day but look solid odds-on favourites to dispatch Nottingham Forest at the Hawthorns.

It has been a scratchy start to 2019 for Albion, who haven't looked as fluent in attack since Harvey Barnes returned to Leicester after a successful loan spell.

But the Baggies added more attacking options with the deadline-day loan acquisitions of wingers Jefferson Montero and Jacob Murphy, who were both involved in Saturday's 1-0 victory at Stoke.

Montero has had problems with his fitness levels and may be used primarily as an impact substitute – as was the case at Stoke - but Murphy has a Championship pedigree, scoring nine goals in 38 appearances for Norwich during the 2016-17 campaign, and looks an excellent choice as Barnes's replacement.

His arrival could be key to getting more out of Dwight Gayle and Jay Rodriguez, who are Albion's leading scorers with league tallies of 16 and 15.

The Murphy, Gayle and Rodriguez triumvirate will cause problems for a lot of defences and could be too hot to handle for big-spending Forest, who are falling below pre-season expectations.

Martin O'Neill has been brought in to reignite Forest's playoff push but there has been no obvious upturn, with Forest winning two (at home to Wigan and Brentford) and losing two (at home to Bristol City and at Birmingham) under the new regime.

Goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon was a major factor in Saturday's fortunate 2-1 victory at home to Brentford but the Romanian may not be able to halt the Baggies, who look set to register back-to-back wins for the first time this year.
