Wednesday's preview

Kilmarnock’s clash with Partick is the highlight of Wednesday’s Scottish League Cup card.

Killie will be looking to beef up their squad after gaining promotion back to the SPL last term, but as things stand there hasn’t been a huge amount of change at Rugby Park.

Summer signing Alan Power made his first appearance for Derek McInnes’s side in their 3-1 win at Fraserburgh last weekend, and while that was a decent victory, Wednesday’s opponents Partick looked pretty good when winning at Stenhousemuir.

Of course, League Two side Stenny are low-level opposition, but Thistle won the shot count 13-2 and had ten corners to Stenhousemuir’s two in that 2-1 triumph at Ochilview Park.

That gives hope that the Jags can outrun odds of 7-2 in Ayrshire. Ian McCall has been pretty busy adding to his squad and recent additions Steven Lawless, Jack McMillan and Aaron Muirhead all featured against Stenny.

Partick will have been disappointed to finish only fourth in the Championship last season, but they beat second-tier champions Kilmarnock at Rugby Park last term and they can repeat the trick in the League Cup on Wednesday.
