Blackburn v Barnsley

Blackburn’s travelling support were rightly aggrieved with the late postponement of their Boxing Day duel with Hull, but maximum points at home to Barnsley should soon see frustrations forgotten.

Rovers are well and truly in the Championship promotion picture after five straight wins to nil and victory over the relegation-threatened Tykes would leave them only one point behind the pace being set by leaders Bournemouth.

Tony Mowbray’s men have sparked into life ever since November’s 7-0 humiliation at home to Fulham, dropping just two points in seven games, and are justifiably odds-on to get the job done here.

While Blackburn boast the best home form in the division with eight wins from 12 fixtures at Ewood Park, Barnsley have collected only four points from their 11 road trips.

The visitors are seven points adrift off survival, are winless in seven and may feel the brunt of a confident Blackburn squad which should be near full strength having reported no fresh Covid-19 cases.

Swindon v Stevenage

Consecutive defeats have put a dent in Swindon’s automatic promotion hopes in League Two, but the Robins can get back on the track at home to Stevenage.

Despite their recent setbacks, the long list of postponements gives Swindon the chance to rise up to fourth with victory, and it would be disappointing were they to falter.

Ben Garner’s promotion hopefuls have lost only one of their six league fixtures against teams above them, which highlights their capabilities, while Stevenage look like being embroiled in a relegation scrap.

Second-bottom Boro have had a torrid time on the road, collecting just two points from their last nine away league games and failing to score on six occasions.
