Wayne Rooney's arrival at DC United has rejuvenated the Washington outfit and England's all-time leading scorer can propel his side to victory against New York Red Bulls.

DC have lost just three of their 12 matches since Rooney’s headline signing, which has reignited their push for the playoffs.

Back-to-back home wins over Atlanta (3-1) and Minnesota (2-1) have moved them to within two points of sixth-placed Montreal and Eastern Conference leaders Red Bulls should expect a stern test.

The visitors have toppled DC twice since July, with Rooney featuring in both games, but Ben Olsen's men are getting stronger while the Red Bulls have looked laboured on their travels.

Chris Armas’s side have won only two of their last six away matches and their latest road trip ended in a 3-0 drubbing at Montreal.

During that time the Red Bulls were also held to a 2-2 stalemate at Vancouver, who are seventh in the Western Conference, and they are unlikely to have things all their own way.

DC are on a three-game unbeaten run and as well as toppling high-flying Atlanta, they picked up a points at the Red Bulls’ rivals New York City.

Rooney is not their only attacking threat. Darren Mattocks is also in scintillating form and they have enough quality to cause an upset.
