Wales won't be at their strongest with eyes on their upcoming Nations League double-header but they should still be too strong for an experimental and youthful United States side.

US coach Gregg Berhalter has omitted all MLS players (bar Sebastian Lletget) and turned to European youth for their first internationals since February.

The word from some US news channels is that Berhalter could start with as many as seven outfield players under the age of 23, with first caps for 17-year-olds Yunus Musah and Gio Reyna.

There is talent in the group and a few household names – Fulham's defensive duo of Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson, for example, plus Juve's Weston McKennie – but this is Berhalter looking at the future and they ought to be found out by the Welsh.

Rob Page, in charge of Wales in Ryan Giggs's absence, has his own selection headaches with Aaron Ramsey missing and Gareth Bale unlikely to be involved. His time will come, fitness and Jose Mourinho allowing, against Ireland on Sunday and Finland on Wednesday in the Nations League.

Wales's only defeat in 11 was against England at Wembley and a record of five wins to nil in their last seven hints at what they are capable of.
