We asked our top team of writers for their thoughts on the big talking points for the new season and this is how they answered...

Would you rather be a layer or a backer of Manchester City?

Dan Childs: A layer and that's despite accepting that another two-horse race is likely. It looks tight between City and Liverpool and I can see Jurgen Klopp's side edging it. Liverpool will miss Mane but they look a dangerous, well-balanced side. City will get plenty of goals from Erling Haaland, but they have lost some pace with the departures of Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling.

Steve Davies: I do think they win it – but I also think they're short enough. I don't see City taking any backward steps, certainly not with the addition of a proven poacher in Haaland, so are their three potential challengers capable of closing that gap? I'd suggest not. I wouldn't be a layer.
