Given owner Tony Bloom's gambling background it would be a surprise if Brighton were not among the frontrunners in football analytics and the signing of Gross would seem to support Albion's interest in key player performance indicators.

Gross has been high on the list of data wizards and, although the transfer fee was undisclosed, a reported fee around £2.5m would be a steal.

In the 2015-16 season Gross, who should also provide Albion with a threat from set-pieces, was credited with the most key passes in the Bundesliga in a list that had Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Hakan Calhanoglu, Thomas Muller and Philipp Lahm as top-ten performers.
