Match preview

They are the best team in the Sky Bet Championship, according to Derby boss Phillip Cocu, and with such praise ringing in their ears confident Fulham may well be too good for Swansea at the Liberty Stadium.

The Rams’ Dutch manager saw how slick Fulham were at first hand on Tuesday when his side slumped to a 3-0 loss at Craven Cottage.

Cocu had nothing but good things to say for the pace and power of a front line led by Alexander Mitrovic, the midfield axis of Tom Cairney and Stefan Johansen and their ability to attack from deep.

It was a potent enough combination on Tuesday as Fulham made it three wins in a row and they will fancy making it four against a Swansea side in danger of back-pedalling.

Steve Cooper’s Swans started the season well – they have been top twice after away wins at Leeds and Charlton – but it’s two wins from 12 and their only success at home since the end of August was against Cardiff.

There’s an almost total lack of creativity in their ranks and Cooper cannot find the ideal attacking combination. Expect more changes following Tuesday’s insipid 1-1 draw at Huddersfield with on-loan youngster Sam Surridge set to be the latest player charged with leading the line.

Swansea managed just two efforts on target at Huddersfield and only managed two more than that in their previous 1-0 home loss against Millwall.

Those numbers don’t make for good reading and while the team still look well drilled defensively there is a feeling that free-flowing Fulham can break them down. In which case, can the Swans offer anything in return?

Cooper is also praying that Mike van der Hoorn, the most experienced member of his side’s rearguard, is fit after limping out of the draw at Huddersfield.

Key stat

Swansea have been level at half-time in a division-high 12 of 18 matches.
