Swansea manager Steve Cooper will not be taking risks with the fitness of key players in the build up to the Championship playoffs and may hand an opportunity to a few fringe players, including promising forward Morgan Whittaker, for this weekend's clash with struggling Derby at the Liberty Stadium.

Among the players expected to be given a breather is the Swans' 16-goal top scorer Andre Ayew, who suffered a minor injury setback in last Sunday's 2-2 draw at Reading.

Ayew's absence would be a relief for Derby, who could achieve safety if they were to win in south Wales and Rotherham lose at home to Blackburn.

The Rams are the league's lowest scorers and their contest with Swansea, the lowest scorers among the top eight, is unlikely to be a classic.

The pacy Whittaker – formerly of Derby – could be one of the main danger man for the hosts and is worth an interest to open the scoring.
